Clinical Chemistry

Clinical Chemistry is a large and diverse division of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine that processes over six million tests per year. The team consists of medical laboratory technologists, technical specialists, supervisors, medical faculty and support staff. With our partners in the Capital Health community-based laboratories, we are dedicated to providing reliable and accurate information to healthcare providers across Capital Health.

We provide clinical information essential for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease as well as the monitoring of safe water supplies within our community. We continually improve our service through quality management, monitoring and updating methods, expanding knowledge, orientation and training, sharing ideas and identifying better ways to deliver the service required. We foster mutual respect and teamwork within all of our laboratories and in partnership with other health care professionals.

At the QEII Health Sciences Centre we are located in both the Mackenzie Building and the Halifax Infirmary. Most of our services are offered on a 24-hour a day, seven - days a week basis.
