Hematopathology

The hematopathology laboratory is located at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Centre and is within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. We are committed to providing the highest quality diagnostic Hematopathology service to the patients of NSHA Central Zone. We are a referral center for Nova Scotia and the Atlantic provinces, providing leadership in laboratory Hematopathology through education and consultative services.

Hematopathology provides both a 24 hour Core Lab service and an Esoteric Service. Core Lab services include Routine Hematology (CBC, body fluid counts, malaria screening,) and Coagulation (INR, aPTT, d-dimer and Fibronogen. Esoteric services include Microscopy (peripheral blood and bone marrows), Advanced Coagulation, HLA, Immunology (hemoglobin investigations), Molecular Diagnostics and Flow Cytometry.

We foster a mutually respectful and safe work environment for our staff. We provide a resident teaching program for the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine through our association with Dalhousie University and participate in research activities for Dalhousie University and NSHA Central Zone.
