Having a Baby

Congratulations on your new role and welcome to motherhood (or fatherhood)! It comes naturally for some, more slowly for others. Public Health offers services to women of childbearing years and their families, newborns, infants and young children. All of our services are voluntary, free and confidential.

Free Prenatal Classes - Welcome to Parenting

The Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness has launched Welcome to Parenting a free, online tool available for anyone in Nova Scotia having a baby. Welcome to Parenting has lots of health information useful during pregnancy and to help prepare for your baby's birth - all available at your finger tips. It’s also an online community where first time moms and dads can chat and share together.

Do you need more support?

Many family resource centres offer prenatal classes and support. Families who have found this helpful include: young parents, lone parents and families new to Canada.
