What is an Epinephrine auto-injector?
- Epinephrine is a drug used to treat an anaphylaxsis reaction.
- Epinephrine auto-injectors contain a prefilled needle with a pre-measured dose of epinephrine.
- They come in two dosages or strengths - 0.15 mg and 0.30 mg - which are prescribed, based the allergic person’s weight.
- Epinephrine auto-injectors are injected into the muscle on the outer side of the thigh.
- There are currently two epinephrine auto-injectors available in North America: EpiPen® and Allerject™

Auto-injector trainers (or demonstrators) are essential teaching tools for hands-on learning. Practicing with an auto-injector trainer (e.g. EpiPen® or Allerject™) familiarizes people with the administration technique.
It is recommended that facilities have more than one auto-injector trainer to give all staff time to practice.
