Reduce Your Risk

You can take steps at any age to keep your blood pressure numbers normal.

In addition to regular monitoring of your blood pressure – or “knowing your numbers” you can reduce your risk of developing high blood pressure by:

  • being more active,
  • eating healthy foods (more fresh vegetables and fruit),
  • losing weight if you are overweight,
  • not smoking,
  • managing stress,
  • limiting alcohol,
  • decreasing your intake of salt (sodium) and foods high in salt.
