Strides for Obesity
The Obesity and WLS Clinic works with patients to provide education, mentoring, lifestyle and behaviour change, and chronic disease management. The WLS provided at the QEII is Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy and has a seven-year average wait time, the longest in Canada.
Strides for Obesity | Halifax, Nova Scotia is a 3km obesity-awareness walk and fundraiser for the Halifax Obesity Network. Started in 2016, it has raised over $70,000 for patient resources and programs. This money helps to:
- increase awareness of obesity as a chronic disease
- educate Nova Scotians about obesity
- address social stigma around obesity
- invest in obesity programs to improve access to care
- advocate to stakeholders on behalf of those affected by obesity
- improve quality of life for Nova Scotians affected by the disease
