Research Education Program
The Research Education Program responds to the needs and interests of a diverse research community in Nova Scotia. Servicing a complex and dynamic environment requires a multi-faceted, collaborative and multidisciplinary approach. The Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA), Research Methods Unit (RMU) and the IWK Health Centre (IWK) are committed to working together to strengthen research capacity and build research excellence. A key element of this commitment is the Research Education Program which offers a number of educational opportunities open to all members of the research community at the NSHA and IWK.
Health research has increased in magnitude, diversity and complexity over the years. This has led to the development of research standards, guidelines and regulations which not only govern the conduct of high calibre research, but ensure participants are protected and high quality data is collected. With this evolution, it has become clear that specific training and education are required on an ongoing basis for all research team members.
As new research staff and investigators join the Nova Scotia Health Authority, they are educated in the standards and regulations that apply to research conduct through interactive workshops, on-line learning and a mentoring program.
Research Placement for Students:
The Research Education Program also facilitates Dalhousie University’s Research In Medicine (RIM) student placements to ensure requirements are met, including an existing affiliation agreement between NSHA the academic institution and agreement from a supervisor (NSHA staff or affiliate scientist).
