Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Program

This inter-disciplinary program of cardiology, respirology, rheumatology and nursing provides comprehensive care for patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension.

The program focuses on early recognition of disease through:

  • Coordinated testing protocols
  • Rapid response to referrals
  • Pharmacologic intervention
  • Monitoring of disease progression
  • Education and research

Investigator driven and industry-sponsored trials are underway or planned in the future.

The Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension team also optimizes patient care through education, coordination of investigations, assisting in obtaining reimbursement for expensive drug therapies and referral when necessary for assessment for surgical intervention (eg. lung transplantation, pulmonary endarterectomy).

Refer Patients...

  • In whom you have a high clinical suspicion of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension
  • Who have a pulmonary artery systolic pressure ≥ 35mmHg by echocardiogram
  • Who have a mean pulmonary artery pressure of ≥ 20mmHg on right heart cardiac catheterization

Referrals from internists or medical subspecialist can be faxed to 902-425-1698.

Family practitioners are encouraged to refer to the appropriate medical subspecialty practitioner, who will then refer your patient if appropriate.
