Sexually Transmitted Disease Clinic
The Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Clinic at Capital Health is a drop-in clinic that provides diagnostic testing, treatment and counselling for persons with suspected or known sexually transmitted infections (STIs) also know as sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Clients typically visit the clinic because they have a perceived risk of STIs and desire information and testing, or they have a known STI and require treatment. Diagnostic testing and treatment are provided free of charge.
Location
The clinic is located on the 5th floor of the Dickson Building, Victoria General site, QEII HSC. To find the clinic take the elevator to the 5th floor, then turn right to the registration desk. See Directions and Maps.
Hours of Operation
The clinic operates on a drop-in or referral basis. The clinic is open for registration Mondays and Thursdays only (Closed on holidays) between 4:30pm and 6:30pm.
Telephone Access
A nurse is available to supply information and to provide test results between 2:00pm - 4:00pm on clinic days (Mondays and Thursdays only). The telephone number is (902) 473-2272. Test results (with the exception of HIV test results) are usually available on the telephone one week after a clinic visit. HIV test results are only provided in person.
Confidentiality
Confidentiality is maintained by operating on a “non-nominal” basis. This means that clients’ names are not used to identify clinical samples sent to the laboratory and clients’ names do not appear on laboratory reports. Each client is the assigned a unique identification number at the time of registration. This number is then used to identify clinical samples and laboratory reports.
Please note that all positive test results are reported to the Department of Health (DOH). Names must be provided to the DOH if requested, particularly in situations where community follow up is required. The DOH will assist with notification of clients and partners who require treatment and/or further testing.
