Orthotics

About our service

We provide inpatient and outpatient orthotic (bracing) services for people who require a device to protect, support or correct the position of a part of their body. Our team of health professionals works collaboratively with our clients and families to develop a care plan that will meet their functional goals.

How to access our service

To be assessed for a brace or to obtain a new device, a written referral from a recognized health professional is required. A referral from your general practitioner or specialist doctor is required for funding purposes. Individuals can access our services through the Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre’s Outpatient Ambulatory Care Clinics or the IWK. The original or a copy of the referral can be forwarded directly to our department.

If an existing device is in need of repair, clients can self refer (no need for a written referral from a doctor). Please contact the department’s reception to make an initial report.

The costs of obtaining an Orthosis may be covered by:

Please contact the insurer directly to find out what portion of the device might be covered or what portion you may be required to pay.
