Dr. Maria Angelopoulos, Psychologist, Professional Practice Coordinator. PhD, 1999, Dalhousie University. Clinical responsibilities include providing assessment, consultation and treatment for kidney or kidney/pancreas recipients in the Multi-Organ Transplant Program. My psychotherapeutic orientation is integrative and includes cognitive-behavioural, interpersonal and dynamic components to address a variety of issues, including coping with chronic or life-threatening illness, improving adherence, and dealing with loss.

Dawnette Benedict-Thomas, Psychometrist (CSP) . MA, 1994, Mount Saint Vincent University. Clinical responsibilities consist of the provision of neuropsychological assessments and some therapeutic interventions for inpatients and outpatients on the Epilepsy Service under the supervision of Dr. Antonina Omisade. Other duties include training of students and interns in neuropsychological assessment, maintenance of referral database, consulting on neuropsychological assessment issues for research projects, and other administrative duties.

Dr. Gordon Butler, Psychologist. PhD, 1986, Queen's University. Clinical responsibilities include services to Cardiology, including the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program and the Cardiac Transplant Program. Also provides services to the Cystic Fibrosis Program and Haematology, including the Bone Marrow Transplant Program. Interests include stress management, coping with disease, coping with and preparing for intrusive medical interventions, cost-effectiveness of psychological interventions and computers in psychology.

Dr. Douglas Cane, Psychologist. PhD, 1988, University of Western Ontario. Clinical responsibilities include psychological services to the Pain Management Unit, an interdisciplinary, regional pain clinic. Interests include identifying factors that predict treatment outcome, assessing the role of beliefs about pain in the development and maintenance of ongoing pain and identifying factors that predict disability.

Dr. Sherri Carter, Psychologist. PhD, 2001, University of Windsor. Clinical responsibilities include provision of neuropsychological assessment, consultation and rehabilitation services to inpatients and outpatients with stroke and other neurological disorders. Research interests include cognitive rehabilitation, outcome evaluation, ecological validity of neuropsychological measures and cognitive complaints.

Dr. John Fisk, Psychologist. PhD, 1984, University of Western Ontario. Clinical responsibilities are neuropsychological assessment with an emphasis on neurodegenerative disorders including: Alzheimer's disease, Vascular Cognitive Impairment, fronto-temporal dementia, Multiple Sclerosis, Huntington's Disease, Parkinson's Disease. Other conditions such as Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus are also seen occasionally. Research interests include: differential diagnosis, epidemiology, risk factors and early detection of cognitive changes in neurodegenerative disorders; neuroimaging correlates of cognitive dysfunction; measurement of health status, quality of life, health care utilization and treatment cost-effectiveness.

Dr. Jennifer Hendrick, Psychologist, Clinical Training Director. PhD, 1991, Queen's University. Provides psychological services to individuals referred from the HIV Clinic, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) Clinic, and the Multiple Sclerosis Clinic (all primarily on an outpatient basis). Uses cognitive-behavioural and interpersonal approaches to address a variety of referral issues, including coping with chronic or life-threatening illness, improving adherence and dealing with loss and grief. jennifer.hendrick@cdha.nshealth.ca

Dr. Janice Howes, Psychologist. PhD, 1984, University of Western Ontario. Clinical responsibilities include the provision of psychological services to patients with cancer (Oncology Services), ENT Disorders (Otolaryngology Clinic), some neurological disorders (Multiple Sclerosis) and limited Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. I provide psychotherapy and assessment services within a broad- based biopsychosocial model. Research interests include Post-Traumatic Stress reactions, coping with disability/illness and cognitive-interpersonal therapy.

Dr. Veroniica Hutchings, Psychologist. PhD, 2009, University of Regina. Clinical responsibilities are split 50/50 between Geriatric Medicine and the Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre (NSRC). In Geriatric Medicine, I provide assessment and psychotherapy for older adults and caregivers of older adults with dementia (both inpatients and outpatients). Therapeutic approaches are predominantly cognitive-behavioural (including mindfulness-based), psychoeducational and supportive in nature. At the NSRC, I provide short-term psychotherapy for a wide range of inpatients (including those with acquired brain injuries, neurological conditions, musculo-skeletal issues, spinal cord injuries, etc.). Research interests involve prospective memory and aging.

Dr. Steven Jefferson, Psychologist. PhD, 2006, University of New Brunswick. Responsibilities include psychological services to three principal domains: 1) the Insomnia Clinic; 2) FamilyMedicine; and, 3) Urology. Treatment approaches are supportive and cognitive-behavioural in nature.

Clinical responsibilities include psychological services to the Pain Management Unit, an interdisciplinary pain clinic that provides services to the Atlantic Provinces. Interests include identifying factors which predict readiness for change, determining how to most effectively blend more holistic treatment approaches with other more traditional psychological practices/therapies and assessing effects of persistent pain on family members.

Dr. Brigitte Patry, Psychologist. Ph.D., 2007, University of Victoria. Clinical responsibilities include provision of neuropsychological assessment, consultation and rehabilitation services to outpatients with acquired brain injury (e.g., traumatic brain injury, brain tumour, anoxia, encephalitis). Research interests include the neuropsychological features of traumatic brain injury, cognitive rehabilitation and the impact of pharmacological intervention on cognitive functioning and behaviour post-injury. I am also interested in the ecological validity of neuropsychological measures.

Dr. Dayna L. Sherry, Psychologist. Ph.D., 2006, University of British Columbia. Clinical responsibilities include assessment, consultation, and treatment for liver transplant recipients, kidney/pancreas transplant recipients and living kidney donors in the Multi Organ Transplant Program. Services are provided for inpatients and outpatient, pre- and post-transplant. Theoretical orientations include cognitive-behavioural, behavioural, motivational enhancement and interpersonal. Research interests involve the role of personality and interpersonal processes in stress, coping, mental health, health and adjustment. Note: Previously published as Dayna L. Lee-Baggley.

Dr. T. Michael Vallis, Psychologist. PhD, 1983, University of Western Ontario. Clinical responsibilities include provision of psychological services to three programs within medicine: the Gastroenterology Program, the Nova Scotia Diabetes Centre (endocrinology) and informally with the cardiovascular risk factor modification clinic. My clinical work as a health psychologist is guided by a biopsychosocial, quality-of-life model of functioning, in contrast to a psychopathology model. Research interests include health risk reduction, obesity, motivational enhancement, fatigue, quality of life and adjustment to illness.
