Psychology Mental Health Program
Psychology services for adults are available within the Capital District Mental Health Program at numerous outpatient services and a few inpatient facilities. These Psychology services are devoted to meeting the mental health needs of a variety of consumers in the Halifax Regional Municipality and Windsor. Psychology also provides several specialty services for individuals from across the province, particularly in forensics. Our clinicians are committed to empowering consumers moving to integrated community-based service delivery and further developing mental health education, training and research programs.
In addition to working within the Mental Health Program’s services where we make most of our clinical contributions, the Council is also interested in promoting good mental health in the larger community as a whole. We are excited to be consulting with Capital Health’s new Community Health Teams, which are looking to promote emotional wellness and healthy lifestyles in new ways. These Teams are presenting and promoting a range of programs and activities to advance the health of our communities.
We are also hoping to enhance our collaborative relationship with Addiction Prevention and Treatment Services
Members of the Psychology Council are also actively involved in a number of other initiatives within the Mental Health Program, including:
- providing education and training to program staff regarding psychotherapy skills, Motivational Interviewing and violence risk assessment;
- involvement in the Mental Health Program’s Education Council, working to promote continuing education activities for staff;
- participation on the Mental Health Program’s Research Council, developing the capacity for staff to undertake research;
- involvement in Quality teams, crafting over-arching priorities of the mental health program and aiming to enhance knowledge about the processes and outcomes involved in services.
