Our Commitment to your Privacy and Confidentiality
At Capital Health, we recognize that the personal health information of our patients is sensitive and our patients’ privacy must be protected. Access to your personal health information is available to those who need to know to provide care, including: physicians, nurses, technicians, therapists and other health professionals. We collect and use your information and take measures to ensure the privacy and confidentiality of the information is protected and secure.
Capital Health is committed to protecting the privacy of personal information under its custody and control in accordance with the Nova Scotia Hospitals Act, public expectations for privacy, and internationally accepted fair information principles.
In addition, the Privacy Officer is committed to establishing standards of privacy, confidentiality and data security to protect the personal health information of Capital Health patients.
Educating Capital Health about Privacy
We continually conduct privacy training sessions for Capital Health staff, volunteers and students. These sessions:
- Provide guidance and interpretation regarding confidentiality and privacy
- Present practical tips for handling common situations involving access, use and disclosure of personal health information
- Answer questions about privacy and patient confidentiality issues
