Newcomer Health Clinic
Newcomer Health Clinic began with four family physicians providing care for refugees using donated resources and office space within ISANS in the spring of 2014.
Since June 2015, the clinic is operated within the Mumford Professional Centre and is a partnership between Primary Health Care, Nova Scotia Health Authority, local family physicians, the Immigrant Settlement Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS), the Halifax Refugee Clinic and the IWK Health Centre.
The Newcomer Health Clinic provides preventative health and primary medical services for government assisted refugees, privately sponsored refugees and refugee claimants in the greater Halifax area. Patients are supported with finding and transitioning to a family practice in the community within a two year period.
The clinic has family physicians, registered nurses and administrative support who provide services that include ensuring up-to-date vaccinations, chronic disease management and routine primary care.
Professional health interpretation services are provided for patients as needed, free of charge.
All refugees at welcome to contact the Newcomer Health Clinic for more information on services.
