"Every person is expected to be a leader at Capital Health. Regardless of assigned role or formal title, every person who chooses to work, learn, teach and volunteer at our organization has in him or her the capacity to lead oneself and others. Each of us can, as Our Promise states, create our reality." – My Leadership
On April 3, Capital Health launched My Leadership, the leadership development program created uniquely for Capital Health. The program reflects the three dimensions of leadership – Being, Caring and Doing – that are at the heart of leadership at Capital Health. All formal leaders at Capital Health have a place held in the program.
My Leadership is a personal journey of transformation that helps us keep Our Promise and honours our Declaration of Health. The program reflects what we heard from our leaders, and from employees and citizens about the leadership required to create a world leading haven for people-centred health, healing and learning. My Leadership has two segments: Foundation, a three-month structured learning experience; followed by My Leadership Journey, an individual, self-directed journey of lifelong learning about leadership.
My Leadership is essential to the transformation of Capital Health and has been identified by the Leadershift Enabling Team (LET) as the priority for professional development in 2009/2010.
In 2009/2010 there is space held for all formal leaders at Capital Health in Foundation. Participation in Foundation is an expectation of all formal leaders (administrative and physician) within Capital Health. The cost for Capital Health leaders to participate in Foundation is covered through Capital Health, Learning and Development. Beyond 2009/2010, Foundation will be available to all 11,000 employees at Capital Health.
In Foundation, participants will further their understanding of Our Promise and the Declaration of Health and how these are integral to Being, Caring and Doing. Foundation is designed to offer a transformative leadership experience that is intended to disrupt traditional models of leadership and shift perspectives on what it means to be a leader at Capital Health.
Foundation begins with a two-day, in-depth group experience. The group will re-convene within two weeks for a half day. Your Foundation learning experience is supported through individual and group work over the three months. At the end of three months you will have created an individual leadership development plan and will reconvene to wrap up and launch into My Leadership Journey.
Several Foundation groups will be underway concurrently. Each group is limited in size, so we encourage you to sign up early. Click here for Details or to Register.
The learning journey you undertake will be unique to the needs you identified to support your personal leadership growth during Foundation. To support you in your journey, Capital Health is creating a marketplace of learning experiences offered internally and externally, as well as making coaches and learning networks available for you to access.
The internal learning experiences are being created by teams of our colleagues based on consultations with you in late 2008 to identify priority areas that support Being, Caring and Doing. These offerings are being designed to appeal to diverse learning styles and interests.
We encourage you to ask questions and learn more about how My Leadership can support you in Being, Caring and Doing.
