Sleep Disorders Program
Sleep disorders affect the lives of many Canadians, whether you have a Sleep Disorder yourself or you are a family member or friend of someone who does.
The Sleep Disorders Clinic was established in 1991 as part of a collaborative effort between the Departments of Psychiatry and Medicine at the former Capital Health. The clinic is an ambulatory service with a 4-bed capacity. It is a tertiary referral center for assessment and treatment of Sleep Disorders in adults from Nova Scotia, PEI, and Newfoundland.
Our mission is to provide exemplary clinical care, to educate patients and the general public and to participate in research initiatives. The Sleep Clinic team consists of four physicians who specialize in Sleep Disorders, six technologists who hold certification in Sleep Technology (RPSGT) and three administrative staff.
Patients must be referred by a physician to be seen in the Sleep Disorders Laboratory. Referral forms should be faxed to 902-473-7158 or mailed to the address listed below. Referrals must include the patient's name, date of birth, health card number, phone numbers for day and evening, complete mailing address and postal code.
The majority of patients are seen for a one-hour consultation only. Following this appointment, a decision about the need for an overnight sleep study is made by the Sleep Lab physician.
