Phuong Nguyen and Brock Paterson: Young nursing leaders

Wednesday, November 16, 2011 - 3:34pm

Phuong Nguyen and Brock Paterson graduated as nurses in 2010. Both are leaders in the Halifax Chapter of Nursing the Future, a national organization committed to supporting and guiding the newest members of the nursing profession as they move from the role of nursing student into the world of professional nursing practice.

Phuong graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Dalhousie University. She recently completed a perioperative program in Nova Scotia, and works full-time as a perioperative nurse at the QEII Health Sciences Centre’s Halifax Infirmary operating room with general, plastic and vascular services.

Brock is a graduate of the University of Alberta in Edmonton, finishing his after-degree program in nursing in August 2010. He also has a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology. He works on Unit 7.3 (Neurology) at the Halifax Infirmary.

Brock and Phuong have presented at many conferences, workshops and other events across the country, often on volunteer time. They are also valuable members of the new grad planning committee for the upcoming Workplace Integration of New Nurses – Nursing the Future national conference being held in Halifax from Nov. 30 to Dec. 2. Their enthusiastic support for the future of nursing in Nova Scotia, and at the national level, is commendable. It is inspiring to see such leadership potential in Capital Health’s new nurses.

Thank you Phuong and Brock for all you contribute to the nursing profession and the community!
