Former Capital Health employee charged with sexual assault of a patient

Tuesday, December 2, 2014 - 1:39pm

Today the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division of the RCMP and Halifax Regional Police charged a former employee of Capital Health with a serious crime against a patient.
Capital Health takes the safety of its patients very seriously. We are extremely concerned by these allegations. The accused is no longer employed at Capital Health.
As soon as we were made aware of these accusations, we took immediate steps to investigate and address the matter. With the patient’s consent the matter was reported to the police and all requirements to report under the Protection of Persons in Care Act were followed.
Our patients put their trust in a team of clinicians and supportive staff. Capital Health values integrity and accountability and, with rare exception, our confidence in the ethical practices of employees throughout our organization is rewarded.
The matter is before the courts, and we will not provide any further detail pending outcome of the court proceeding and with appropriate consideration for the confidentiality of patient information.
