Elisabeth-Anne, student at Ecole du Carrefour, was sure she wanted to be a nurse. She’d even chosen a university. After spending a day at Capital Health’s Career Quest, seeing the range of options available and talking to dietitian Anna Threadcraft, Elisabeth-Anne has decided dietetics is the career for her.

On Nov. 9, 85 high school students set out on a Career Quest at Capital Health. The career exploration day gave students a taste of several health care career options as they engaged in interactive workshops, talked to health professionals and toured some of our departments and facilities.

The day received rave reviews from students:

  • “I thought that the Career Quest was absolutely awesome, and I learned a lot about Capital Health. It surprised me how many different occupations there were in the health field, I never really realized.” – Chelsea Cameron
  • “This career day event definitely helped me open my eyes to see all the different jobs out there in the health world. Thank you very much for the amazing day!” – Candice Perry
  • “I loved the nursing workshop; it really helped me see that the path I plan to take in the future is going to be the right one for me. I couldn't thank you guys more for giving your time for such a great opportunity like this!” Robyn Morrisey

Director of People Services, Bruce English, says this type of event helps stir interest among students in health care disciplines. “We believe it is important for the long term sustainability of the health care system that we work with the high schools to show the variety of careers available in health care."

Thanks to staff who hosted displays, facilitated demonstrations and hands-on activities, talked to students about their careers, and escorted students between locations. Special thanks to Sherry Scott and Hala Finians, People Services and Berni Duda, Volunteer Services, and the team who brought Career Quest to life!
