Capital Health kicks off Nursing Week with poster fair

Monday, May 6, 2013 - 1:11pm

Dozens of Capital Health nurses celebrated the beginning of 2013 Nursing Week with a poster fair at the Veterans Memorial Building Monday, May 6, 2013.

The nurses were showcasing the work they did after receiving Improving Nursing Practice Grants.

As a part of the Nova Scotia Provincial Nursing Strategy, Capital Health is provided with per capita funding to support the orientation and continuing education of Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses in their district.

The Capital Health District Nursing Advisory Council has set aside $80,000 of the continuing education monies to fund Improving Nursing Practice Grants.

These grants are intended to fund short-term initiatives that will achieve one or more of the following goals:

  • Promote innovation in nursing and clinical practice
  • Enhance patient care
  • Foster a spirit of inquiry
  • Promote learning and skills development
  • Build practice leadership capacity in staff at all levels
  • Create quality practice environments that support nurses to meet practice standards
  • Foster collaborative working environments.

The Improving Nursing Practice Grants Program is based on the belief that if given support in terms of time, money and mentorship, nurses have the capacity to solve problems, create quality practice settings and improve patient care and advance nursing practice.

The deadline to apply is usually August, but the 2013 program details have not been finalized.
