Leadership Excellence Award – Physician Leader
Recognizes one outstanding NS Health physician leader. These awards are presented to individuals who regularly model the behaviours and values of a NSHA leader and who demonstrate a consistent application of the LEADS leadership philosophy. These individuals are true professionals who consistently deliver their role in a manner aligned to the vision, mission and values of our organization.

Outstanding Contribution Award
Recognizes the contributions of an exceptional physician, employee or team in their daily delivery of service to others. Aligned to one of the three strategic directions, their positive contribution is exemplified by consistent collaboration, creativity and enthusiasm for the work they do.
Award of Distinction
Recognizes an exceptional individual unionized employee (clinical or non-clinical) in their consistent and focused delivery of outstanding service to patients and/or family members and their colleagues. This award is presented in recognition of the highest level of contribution and achievement to an individual who is highly regarded by their peers as much as they are regarded by patients/clients and who routinely receives this type of feedback from others. They exemplify the traits of the highest caliber of NS Health employee and consistently perform in a values-based manner.
Don Currie Workplace Safety Champion Award
Recognizes a staff member or physician who consistently demonstrates workplace safety values and behaviors that result in improvements to the safety and wellbeing of others. This is an individual who may (or may not) work directly in the area of occupational health safety and wellness and most certainly is someone who shows individual effort and leadership to help the organization reduce preventable harm.
This award is named after Don Currie, a member of the Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness team who passed way in 2019. Don was a wonderful person whose spirit of positivity was contagious. He was a dedicated leader who was passionate about health and safety. Don demonstrated his passion by way of supporting health and safety education and training, internally and externally. Don continually moved the needle to help create a culture of safety in healthcare and was a true role model, leader and colleague.
Diversity and Inclusion Award
This award celebrates the exceptional efforts and contribution of a team or individual who has made an effort and impact in creating a more welcoming, diverse, collegial environment within Nova Scotia Health. The Diversity and Inclusion Award honours contributions to building an inclusive and respectful culture where differences are celebrated and respect is demonstrated.
