Food & Nutrition Services
Our Mission
Through progressive, effective business, clinical, education and research practices, we provide food and nutrition products and services that meet the needs of patients and residents.
What We Do
Food & Nutrition Services provides food service to the patients of Capital Health. We have a central facility located at the Veterans Building, from which we service patients located at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Dartmouth General Hospital and Nova Scotia Hospital. All food is produced on site in the central facility using cook-chill technology. Our other facilities (Twin Oaks Memorial, Eastern Shore Memorial, Musquodoboit Valley Memorial and Hants Community Hospital) operate conventional cook-serve kitchens.
By supporting “Buy local-Select NS” and including a requirement for local suppliers in our contracts we support local food producers.
We are a "green" department regarding source separation for waste management, including compost of all food waste.

Clinical Nutrition
Clinical Nutrition includes both Dietitians and Diet Technicians, who provide nutrition treatment, education and support as part of the patient’s care team. Dietitians provide comprehensive nutrition assessment, with timely and appropriate nutrition intervention to optimize outcome.
Diet Technicians provide nutrition risk screening for early identification of individuals at risk for protein-calorie malnutrition.
Nutrition Month
This year we're focused on busting popular food and nutrition myths. Join us during the month of March for interesting facts, events, and stories.
