Research Ethics

All research projects involving patients, staff, resources or data within Capital Health are to be reviewed by the Capital Health Research Ethics Board (REB) before the research begins. This requirement applies to research involving human remains, cadavers, tissues, biological fluids, embryos or fetuses as well.

The REB will evaluate the protocols with reference to scientific validity, informed consent, harm/benefit ratios, subject selection procedures, and adherence to the Tri-Council Policy Statement and the REB Procedures regarding protocols and consent forms. For approval, a protocol must be found by the REB to be scientifically valid and ethically acceptable.

This web site provides you with information on making an application for ethics approval of your research study, ethical guidelines and ongoing requirements for conducting research at Capital Health.
