Enterprise Imaging

To provide the latest innovations in digital storage of medical imaging, the Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) is being transformed with the implementation of Agfa’s Enterprise Imaging solution.

PACS captures, manages and stores medical images for patient care and is used by health care providers across the province to deliver patient care.

PACS is comprised of two applications:

  •   Enterprise Imaging is replacing IMPAX, which is used primarily by diagnostic imaging, emergency departments, Orthopedics and ORs across Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. This work is targeted to be completed late summer 2023.
  •   XERO 8.1, a web-based viewer intended for use outside of diagnostic imaging, has recently been upgraded across Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health from an older version.

In Nova Scotia, over 1.5M exams are performed on +1/2M patients each year. This transition will modernize software and technology and provide a foundation for a provincial enterprise imaging strategy, including enabling the future storage of images from other clinical disciplines outside of the traditional areas of radiology and cardiology.
