Surveyors from across the country will be at Capital Health Oct. 27 to Nov. 1, 2013 for a visit from Accreditation Canada. This visit and the feedback is an important part of Capital Health’s efforts to continually improve quality and safety for patients, physicians, staff, volunteers and learners.

Accreditation Canada is a not-for-profit, independent organization accredited by the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua). Accreditation Canada's programs and guidance have helped organizations promote quality health care for over 50 years.

Throughout the week, surveyors will be visiting each site and will be speaking with the board of directors, the CEO and senior leadersip, patients, families, staff, volunteers and physicians; everyone’s participation in this process is vital. The on-site survey is Capital Health’s opportunity to showcase and to brag about, the safe, high quality healthcare provided here. At various checkpoints, the surveyor will note if  processes meets Accreditation Canada standards.

In preparation for the visit, in addition to the quality work done every day, staff are reminded to:

  • Be welcoming to the surveyors
  • Think ahead for examples of how work being done contributes generally to Capital Health’s  Mission, Vision and Values and Our Promise
  • Be aware of the policies and procedures applicable in their area
  • Check with managers and/or quality team leader about the specific preparations being done
  • Wear ID/name tag
  • Visit the accreditation intranet site

When the surveyors leave, they will provide a brief report of their findings including both strengths and where there could be some improvement.
