2013-14 Patient experience survey results now available

Wednesday, July 16, 2014 - 11:00am

In the interests of quality improvement for our patients and their families, we seek feedback on an ongoing basis. Throughout the year, we randomly sample Capital Health patients accessing inpatient and outpatient services. We report survey results annually.

These patient experience survey results can be used to identify strengths and opportunities for quality improvement initiatives and accreditation requirements. The indicators show the proportion of positive responses in a particular dimension or section of the survey.  Our experience and satisfaction target has been set at 90 per cent. If the target isn’t met a quality review is indicated.

Surveys are mailed to patients one to four months following their discharge from hospital/outpatient care visit. The patient experience survey results reflect the views of patients who were inpatients outpatients from April 2013 to March 2014.  Mental Health & Addictions, Cancer Care and Emergency Department patients are not included; they are surveyed separately using different tools.

Eight facilities within Capital Health were surveyed: the QEII (VG and HI sites, the NS Rehabilitation Centre (also part of QEII), Dartmouth General Hospital, Hants Community Hospital, Eastern Shore, Twin Oaks, Musquodoboit Valley and Cobequid Community Health Centre. There were 3,801 responses, representing a 33.3 per cent response rate.

The 2013-14 patient experience results (Capital Health, by site and by service) and organizational results scorecard can be accessed through our intranet site under Performance Indicators & Reports.

This year we have added a three year trend scorecard for the summary and service specific results.

Mental Health, Cancer Care and Emergency Department patients are not included as they are surveyed separately using a different tool.  Mental Health survey summaries can be found on our website.
