Research Training & Education

Capital Health, is committed to strengthening research capacity and building excellence through the education and training of our research teams. As health research continues to increase in magnitude, diversity and complexity it is essential that all of our research team members receive up-to-date continuing education based on current topics. Capital Health has developed and adopted various teaching and learning methods including interactive workshops, online learning and a mentoring program.

Diving into Clinical Trials - Sink or Swim was developed for health care professionals who may be new to clinical trials research involving unapproved medications. This two-day workshop focuses on the practical application of Health Canada’s Regulations and Standards for the conduct of research.

The Fundamentals of Research is a seven part series open to any professionals within Atlantic Canada via telehealth who are interested in learning more about the world of research.

Topics for the Research Education Across Atlantic Canada Hospitals (REACH) Series are chosen based on staff suggestions and trends identified by quality evaluators. Courses are available both locally and through telehealth.

The Integrated Health Research Training Partnership (IHRTP) shares and coordinates the educational opportunities offered by Capital Health, the IWK Health Centre, Dalhousie University Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, and Health Professions and the Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation.

Research staff may require Mandatory Training and Certifications specific to a particular research project. These courses may include Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) or Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)

The Research Coordinator Mentorship Program pairs new researchers with experienced ones who can facilitate a smooth transition of new coordinators to the field of clinical research and enhance their learning experience.

Point-of-Care Research Education for Health Professionals is a pilot program providing education, training, mentorship and support for various non-medical health professions to participate in the design and conduct of their own research.

Capital Health collects evaluations on our educational initiatives through out the year as part of our Quality Assurance of the Education Program. These evaluations are reviewed every year to improve existing initiatives and to guide future programs.
