Magnetic Resonance Imaging - MRI
MRI Stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
An MRI machine uses a magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images of the body. Because radio waves are used for these procedures no radiation is used. A strong magnetic field is created by passing an electric current through the wire loops. While this is happening, coils in the magnet send and receive radio waves. This information is then sent to a computer which processes all the signals and generates it into an image.
An appointment is required and will be made through your specialist's office. Any patient preparation instructions will be given at that time. When you arrive for your MRI appointment you will be given a questionnaire to complete before the procedure will be done. You will be required to change into a johnny shirt and housecoat.
