Clinical Care

The Division of Cardiology provides tertiary care for the provinces of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, a catchment area of 1.1 million people. Approximately 2,000 patients are transferred for tertiary cardiac care each year. The division is the transplant centre for the four Atlantic Provinces.

Over 5,500 cardiac catheterizations are performed per year along with 1,730 angioplasty and stent procedures and 400 EP procedures (including more than 300 ablations).

The division has a very active noninvasive cardiology program performing 7,900 exercise tests per year, 2,000 of which involve nuclear scanning. The division also performs cardiopulmonary stress testing.

Over 8,300 echocardiography examinations including transesophageal and stress echocardiography.
