Public Health Services works in partnership with communities, families and individuals to prevent illness, protect and promote health and achieve well-being. Public Health Services staff deliver health promotion and primary prevention programs based on Capital Health (district) strategic plans, provincial Public Health Standards, and Community Health Board plans.
Programs are delivered through three multidisciplinary teams:
- Communicable Disease Prevention and Control Program
- Healthy Beginnings Program
- School Health Program
The Public Health Services team within Capital Health consists of an interdisciplinary team of professionals who work with colleagues at the provincial, district and community levels of the health system. We are public health nurses, health promotion coordinators, dental hygienists, nutritionists, support staff, medical officers of health, and administrators/managers.
Public Health uses a population health philosophy in its practice and works collaboratively with many partners. The traditional work of Public Health has expanded over the past number of decades to keep pace with an increased knowledge and better understanding of what makes us healthy. With the help of our many partners and the people we serve, Public Health continues to work to improve the health of our communities, province and country.
