Welcome! The Mental Health Program, together with the Dalhousie Department of Psychiatry, provides crisis, emergency, inpatient and community mental health support in the Capital District. The majority of our services are available to adults; however, some are available to youth. To offer the best possible services, we work with clients, families and other providers.
If you are looking for help with a mental health issue or illness, we encourage you to:
For those who would like to know more about the Program…
Our services and supports are available to people who live in communities from Windsor to Sheet Harbour, and range from crisis intervention to recovery and integration services. Some of our programs have a provincial mandate and therefore are available to people across Nova Scotia.
The majority of our services and supports are provided at three facilities: The Nova Scotia Hospital, the East Coast Forensic Hospital and the Abbie J. Lane. Many, however, are located in the community. We expect that more and more of our services and supports will be based in the community in the near future. This is one of our major efforts to improve access for clients.
The Mental Health Program is accredited by the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation and is a partner with Dalhousie University Department of Psychiatry. It also has teaching affiliations with other health faculties in Nova Scotia, and students in many disciplines.
Mandate
To work with our shareholders - individuals, consumer groups, community members, and other non-governmental organizations - to ensure the right person receives the right mental health treatment and support in the right setting at the right time in order to meet his/her needs.
