The Southeastern Community Health Board (SECHB) is one of seven Community Health Boards in the Capital Health District.
In the simplest of terms, a Community Health Board (CHB) acts as the eyes, ears and voice for the community’s health. Each Board is composed of 15 volunteer community members and attempts to reflect the demographic diversity of the community it represents (e.g. age, gender, ethnicity and geographic balance).
The Board consults with community residents, groups and organizations to determine the priority health issues affecting people of all ages in the community. Together with other groups, the Board supports many different community activities that aim to improve health, such as the Global Tour project (view video on this page) and the diabetes prevention project (view video on this page).
As part of its mandate in accordance with the Health Authority Act - Bill 34, the Southeastern Community Health Board submits a Community Health Plan or update to Capital Health annually. For more detail about the role of community health boards, please view the video "Our Story" found on this page.
Members of the Southeastern Community Health Board are volunteers who live in the following communities: Eastern Passage, Cow Bay, Cole Harbour, Cherry Brook/Lake Loon, North Preston, East Preston, Mineville, Lawrencetown
