Healthy Choice - Healthy Eating StrategyPrint Page | Return to Previous Page

Healthy Choice is a partnership of Healthy Workplace and Food & Nutrition Services

The Healthy Workplace Strategy is being co-led by the Healthy Workplace Department and Food and Nutrition Services.

Capital Health developed a healthy eating position statement, approved by our executive management team in June 2005. Four strategy components have been identified based on the healthy eating position statement, including: Healthy choice guidelines, Healthy choice accessibility and availability, Healthy choice education and Healthy choice promotion. Currently four subcommittees are addressing each of these strategy components by identifying key short-term and long-term activities for each.

The Healthy Eating Strategy is based on evidence and best practices. Elements of the Healthy Eating Strategy focus on choice - offering more and promoting healthier food choices, and increasing accessibility to healthier food choices in restaurants, catering, vending machines and retail areas. In addition, promoting and providing point of purchase nutrition education programs will engage and improve decision-making abilities of employees, physicians and volunteers. People who access the facilities and workplaces of Capital Health will also be exposed to elements of the Healthy Eating Project. View the detailed Healthy Eating Action Plan.
