Referrals: Cape Breton Cancer Centre
Welcome! The Cape Breton Cancer Centre is testing a new patient referral process to make it easier for family doctors, other primary care providers and referring providers to:
- Refer patients
- Ensure patients understand the referral process
- Ensure referrals are processed in a timely manner
- Avoid the chance of a referral being missed
The new process includes:
- A guide for doctors, other primary care providers and referring providers on what to do if they suspect a cancer diagnosis
- A new referral form
- A central referral fax number (902-567-3284)
- A notification fax to the referring provider’s office that indicates the referral has been received
- A toll-fee patient referral information line (1-844-905-0281)

Referral Process
- Complete the Referral form for the Cape Breton Cancer Centre.
- Please include all diagnostic reports that support/confirm the diagnosis.
- If confirmation of diagnosis is not complete, please identify tests/work up that have been ordered, as well as the date they were ordered to enable the Cancer Centre to follow up.
- Attach a referral letter with supporting patient history, co-morbidities, or other relevant information.
- Advise your patient that the Cancer Centre will contact them with their appointment.
- Provide your patient with a copy of the patient referral information number and guidelines.
- Fax your referral and supporting documentation to 902-567-3284.
- You will receive a confirmation letter stating receipt of referral, if you have not received confirmation within one business day; please contact the Centre at 902-567-7771.
