Board of Directors

Capital Health exists within the largest health district in Atlantic Canada. Our Board of Directors and executive management team govern the three main health care organizations within the district. These healthcare organizations include:

  • The Central Regional Health Board
  • The Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre
  • The Nova Scotia Hospital

Diversity

The Capital Health Board of Directors is a diverse group, representing many of the cultural elements of the community to ensure the best interests of the health district are always in focus. Members of the Board are volunteers drawn from the community and appointed for three-year terms which may be renewed. They provide governance to the health authority and a budget of more than $800 million.

Members

Of the twenty members of the Board, five are ex-officio, non-voting members who serve on the Board as a result of the positions they hold. These positions include:

  • The President and CEO of Capital Health
  • The Dean of the Dalhousie University School of Medicine
  • The Dean of the Dalhousie University School of Health Professions 
  • The Chair of the District Medical Advisory Committee
  • The Chair of the District Medical Staff Association

The minister of Health and Wellness appoints five of the members including the chair of the board. The seven Community Health Boards (CHBs) in the district appoint one member each as well as three members at large to represent the CHBs as a whole.
